Statistics center - Abu Dhabi (SCAD) was established in fulfillment of the wise vision of UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, (may Allah protect him) and HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, reflecting their Highnesses keen resolve to accelerate the pace of development and advance the national economy.

SCAD was established in accordance with Law No. (7) for the year 2008, with a view to develop and organize statistical work in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular and the United Arab Emirates in general. The Center therefore has an independent legal personality and financial autonomy, and full legal capacity to act in a manner that is consistent with the emirate’s orientation towards sustainable development and strategic plans under the supervision and with full support of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

In the performance of its mission and strategic plan, the Center aspires to evolve into a distinguished institution that manages to cope with the requirements of the upcoming stage, which will see a focus achieving high rates of growth and sustainable development. SCAD looks forward to becoming an active partner and contributor at all levels.

Being the main official body concerned with the collection of statistical data in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Center assumes the functions of preparing the statistical plans programs that serve the emirate’s development programs, conducting statistical surveys all over the emirate, without prejudice to the interest of national statistical work. SCAD is also responsible for the collection, classification, storage, analysis and dissemination of official statistics and the release of the results of social, demographic, economic, environmental and cultural, surveys.

The activities of the Center will encompass all areas relating to social conditions in accordance with relevant international standards and ethics, such as independence, professionalism, impartiality, objectivity, confidentiality, cost effectiveness and quality of statistics.

As a local Government entity, SCAD is also committed to fully cooperate with the local and Federal government entities in conducting statistical surveys as per the annual schedule of surveys endorsed by the federal body concerned, and in accordance with its adopted methodologies, standards, classifications, definitions, questionnaires and forms, and planned survey dates. However, this is granted without prejudice to the right of SCAD to conduct statistical surveys within the emirate of Abu Dhabi according to its annual plan, and provided that the described cooperation does not run counter to the interest of national statistical work, with care being taken to ensure compliance with the policies of dissemination of statistical data pursued by Federal authorities in the release of national indicators. The Center will also contribute towards any e-link projects with Federal bodies for the purpose of conducting joint surveys whenever necessary.

SCAD’s mandate assigns it as the main authority concerned with the collection of statistical data, using standard methods and advanced techniques. The data is then duly examined and analyzed for extraction of indicators that serve the goals of development. These functions make the Center a key source of information to decision and policy makers, blazing the track for development and growth, and serving in addition the needs of the public, the business community, researchers, the media, etc.

Finally, it is important to point out the need to promote awareness about the importance of statistical data and its role in enhancing sustainable development by fostering ties of fruitful cooperation between the Center and the entire range of stakeholders across the community.
